About this service
Werribee Mercy Hospital is a community hospital providing surgical, medical, maternity, newborn, renal dialysis, emergency, mental health, rehabilitation, aged and palliative care services in the south west region of Melbourne. The hospital also provides a range of home-based support services including Hospital in the Home and Midwifery in the Home.
The Catherine McCauley Centre offers subacute care to the Wyndham and surrounding regions. It includes the Continuing Care Centre, combining the Community Rehabilitation Centre, Complex Care Program, Residential In-Reach and two subacute ambulatory specialist clinics, Falls and Balance and Continence. It also offers 30 geriatric evaluation and management and rehabilitation inpatient beds and therapy spaces.
Antenatal Shared care with GP’s is where a woman’s antenatal care is provided by both the hospital and a credentialed affiliate (General Practitioner or Obstetrician) in the community and the birth and immediate postnatal care is managed by the hospital. Some women prefer this model as it provides greater flexibility for appointment times, ease of access to a potentially known local practitioner and greater continuity of care. Shared care is only appropriate for women who have uncomplicated pregnancies.
Other services available at the hospital include
Lactation consultants available Monday – Saturday 0800-1630. Service only available to women who birth at WMH or have babies admitted to special care nursery.
Mental health assessment is available via emergency department – 1300 657 259
